IC2 was recently awarded an AFWERX Phase 1 contract for Calibrated, MHz-Bandwidth, Dynamic Pressure Sensors for Quantitative Measurements in Hypersonic Flows through the SBIR program (J20.1).
The goal of this research is to develop a scientific-grade dynamic pressure sensor using MEMS piezoelectric sensing technology and optimization for bandwidths exceeding 1 MHz to enable wide-band performance and full calibration capability at targeted operating frequencies. This will be accomplished by combining IC2’s proven MEMS piezoelectric sensor technology and novel reciprocal calibration method with copper through-silicon-vias (TSVs) to provide high-bandwidth (1 MHz) dynamic pressure sensors with a full frequency response calibration. The resulting fully-calibrated sensor will provide a direct replacement for existing sensors, enabling quantifiable dynamic pressure measurements in high-speed flows which is a critical capability for reduced-scale testing of next-generation hypersonic vehicle designs.
IC2 is currently accepting requests for information from prospective customers of the proposed technology, which will be further developed and prepared for commercialization in a Phase 2 SBIR. If interested in staying informed on these developments, please contact IC2 at sales@thinkic2.com.
