WIRA System
Modular Wireless DAQ for Remote and Distributed Sensing
WIRA® (Wireless Instrumentation for Remote Acquisition) is a weather-resistant, research-grade wireless data acquisition system designed for synchronized measurements across distributed sensing nodes. Each node supports up to two swappable sensor modules, remote control over Wi‑Fi, local data storage, and wireless time synchronization for simultaneous sampling across nodes.
WIRA Sensor Modules are external devices that connect to the main WIRA sensing node. They contain the sensing node’s sensor input, analog front end, and analog-to-digital converter (ADC). Sensor modules can be mixed and matched to collect data from multiple sensor types with the same WIRA sensing node. At least one sensor module must be connected to the sensing node to collect data.

WIRA Sensing Nodes are weather resistant, wireless data acquisition (DAQ) system components with swappable sensor modules to support a wide variety of measurement types. The sensing nodes may be used as a standalone system or as part of a larger WIRA system. WIRA sensing nodes are compatible with other IC2 DAQ products and can be integrated into a WirelessArray system.

Orchestration Software is provided to communicate with all or a subset of active sensing nodes in a WIRA system. It is responsible for monitoring sensing node health and performing simultaneous acquisitions across multiple sensing nodes. IC2 provides orchestration software with each system for users to interact with the sensing nodes through a graphical user interface (GUI). Custom orchestration software can be built using the sensing node’s REST API for advanced users to integrate the sensing nodes into their own data collection architecture.

How is the system deployed in the field?
Nodes are placed and locations surveyed by your installation team. IC2 has accessories available that magnetically attach to the Sensing Nodes to assist surveyor’s measurements in the field. Wireless access points are distributed throughout the array to control and collect data from the wireless nodes. Additional installation details specific to your array are provided throughout the customization and production of orders.
What are the benefits of using a wireless system over a wired system?
By eliminating the need for cabling to connect each measurement node, the end user saves time and money in labor and materials in the setup, deployment, and teardown process. Additionally, the nodes are environmentally hardened to withstand weather events over a long deployment.
Can the array size and shape be adjusted after purchase?
Yes, additional Sensing Nodes may be added to expand your array in density or diameter. Additional wireless access points may be needed depending on the size of the geographic expansion.
What software is provided with the system?
IC2 provides a per node web page interface and a PC based GUI orchestration software to interact with the array as a whole. The system’s software runs on an open API for integration with existing applications.
Can the system be used in adverse weather conditions?
Yes, sensing nodes are environmentally hardened and rated for sustained outdoor use.
