DirectShear wall shear stress sensors provide direct, time-resolved measurements of surface shear stress with unmatched accuracy, bandwidth, and resolution. Utilizing advanced MEMS floating-element technology, DirectShear sensors capture both mean and fluctuating wall shear stress in real time, enabling researchers and engineers to better understand boundary layer behavior, aerodynamic drag, flow separation, and turbulent flow phenomena. With a compact, flush-mounted design that minimizes flow disturbance, DirectShear delivers instrumentation-grade measurements for wind tunnel testing, aerospace research, CFD validation, and advanced fluid dynamics applications.
Learn More About Related Applications ↓
The PXI Control Unit requires an PXI chassis such as those available from NI. IC2 is an NI Applications Solutions Partner and can assist in procuring a chassis and data acquisition to meet your experimental needs.
Additionally, all DirectShear Control Units output an analog voltage which will require a data acquisition system to digitize the signal.
What does the PXI Control Unit do?
The PXI Control Unit powers the DirectShear sensor, provides the required bias signals, and conditions the sensor output for connection to your data acquisition system.
Which DirectShear sensors are compatible with the PXI Control Unit?
The PXI Control Unit is compatible with the DirectShear Cylindrical and Low-Profile sensor families.
Why choose the PXI version instead of a standalone control unit?
The PXI form factor enables easy integration into existing PXI/PXIe test platforms, simplifies system expansion, and allows multiple sensor channels to be managed within a single modular chassis.
